The novel virus outbreak in China was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 by the World Health Organization. Now known as the CoronaVirus, COVID-19, this global pandemic has changed every aspect of life for people around the world. Along with most of the world, Zambia has been put on lockdown to try to slow the spread of the disease and protect citizens. However, this scary and dangerous time is even more difficult for the Deaf community in Zambia.
GBCZ has partnered with Zambian Deaf Women and Youth to create a temporary shelter in place at Jennifer Memorial Special Community School for the Deaf in Kitwe. With our donations, ten of the most vulnerable Deaf students will taken care of with a safe place to sleep, 3 meals a day, access to proper hygiene and emergency information.
GBCZ is committed to continue this support until there is no longer imminent danger due to COVID-19.

This support has come at a right time when the plights of children with disabilities are been disregarded during this Coronavirus outbreak by those with obligation to guarantee their safety and well being." Frankson Musukwa, ZDWY Executive Director |
